Palestinian rights group urges U.N. to investigate spyware hacking claims

Cyber security is a threat in Israel. The safety of human rights activists needs concerns. Tahseen Elayyan is from Al-Haq Organization. He suggests urge the United Nations to open an investigation to uncover major motivations and protect activists.

 

Security researchers revealed that there were six phone numbers hacked by NSO group’s spyware, Pegasus. These numbers were related with Palestinian civil society groups. Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz declared these groups ran for a terrorist movement with little evidence. Since 2015, this notorious spyware involved in some cyber security cases. From Mexico to Saudi Arabia, victims included workers in rights groups, media and politics.

 

Up to now, victims have had no idea how this spyware placed into their cellphones. What Palestinian civil society groups knew that this was tricks to cut their funds and mute their voices. However, this spyware incident made them stronger and jointly condemned the government’s actions.
